General Procedure |
|
Breast Augmentation is performed by surgically inserting breast implants through an incision made below the breast. The procedure is performed at a surgical center and the patient is under a general anesthesia. Prior to the surgery, the doctor and the patient will discuss the best place to insert the implant during the initial consultation. The breast implants can be placed near the crease of the breast (inframammary incision), through the underarm (axillary incision) or near the areola (periareolar incision).
Once the incisions are made, the surgeon creates a pocket either behind the breast tissue (submammary) or beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular). The breast implants are positioned within the pocket and the incisions are then closed with layered sutures or skin adhesive to ensure the skin is closed.

Recovery Process |
|
After having surgery, the patient needs to stay home and rest. They then are instructed to move as little as possible. Large bandages are placed around the breasts to maintain security and to help heal the wounds. After the breasts have healed some, and the bandages are removed, an exclusive medical bra must be worn for weeks after. Over the counter pain relievers can subdue any minor aches and pains the patient may be complaining of. After the procedure, patients should follow the directions of the doctor to avoid any post-operation problems.
