Procedure Detail |
|
The patient can be awake or asleep under general anesthesia during the liposuction procedure. A tube is inserted in the problem area under the skin, and the fatty tissue is removed by a vacuum process through the narrow tube. When the doctor is in the problem area, squeezing the muscles and tissue will allow him/her to determine how much fat to be removed. After the surgery is complete, the areas are then compressed with a wrap to heal and reduce swelling.
With technology on the rise, there have been many new types of liposuction emerging. While consulting with the surgeon, the patient should be deciding what method of liposuction is best for their circumstances. Liposuction is a process that can take from thirty minutes to a number of hours. This all depends on how much fatty tissue is being removed.

Recovery |
|
If the patient is in surgery for an extensive amount of time, the recovery process will be greater. There are more options to a quicker recovery now more than ever. Like most procedures, plenty of rest and limited movement are recommended. The areas that were worked on may require a compression wrap to heal the wounds and keep the swelling down. Over the counter pain relievers can subdue any minor aches and pains the patient may be complaining of. After the procedure, patients should follow the directions of the doctor to avoid any post-operation problems.
