Body Lift
A body lift or belt lipectomy is a procedure in which the excess skin from the entire body is lift and/or removed from problematic areas and reshaped to form a new body. Sagging skin is caused by pregnancies, aging, or extreme weight loss. When getting a body lift, these problems are ultimately eliminated.
A body lift can be performed on the lower torso and upper legs including the abdomen, waist, inner/outer thighs, buttocks, and/or hips. Liposuction may also be performed in conjunction with a body lift to remove any excess fatty tissue that remains.
Patients consider a Body Lift if they are looking to:
- Correct the contouring of midsection of the body.
- Replace and remove excess skin due to aging and weight loss.
- Reshape the stomach after multiple pregnancies.
Procedure Detail
Different patients undergo different types of body lifts, however all the surgeries are generally the same. General anesthesia is applied to the patient in an outpatient setting. With incisions ranging from the thighs, buttocks lower back, hips, and waist, the excess skin is removed. When the fat and skin have been removed, the skin is then pulled and stitched. A body lift is one of the longest cosmetic procedures ranging from three to eight hours in length.
Recovery
Like most procedures, a body lift requires plenty of rest and limited movement is recommended. The areas that were performed on may require a compression wrap to heal the wounds and keep the swelling down.
Over the counter pain relievers can subdue any minor aches and pains the patient may be complaining of. After the procedure, patients should follow the directions of the doctor to avoid any post-operation problems. If the patient is in surgery for an extensive amount of time, the recovery process will be greater.
